2 Things To Do When Trying To Get The Perfect Grave Monument Or Marker

by Wade Watkins

When you are trying to decide what kind of marker you want to put on your loved one's grave, there are many choices out there. There are also rules that each cemetery has put into place about what kinds of markers or monuments you can use on your loved one's grave. Spending some time looking into those rules and looking at all the choices out there can help you find the marker that will be perfect for your loved one.

Talk to the Cemetery

Before you start looking around, make sure that you talk to the people at the cemetery. You should talk to them about the rules over markers and monuments depending on that particular cemetery, but you can try talking to the head groundskeeper. They will be familiar with the practical aspects of what the rules are, and they can point you in the right direction about who you should talk to for all the rules. The cemetery may also have an appeals process that you can use if you think that the marker you want fits in with their guidelines.

Look at Materials

When it comes to the physical markers and monuments, there are a lot of materials that you can choose from. There are broad categories of stone and metal. Then you get into the various subcategories, which would be the various metals, like brass, bronze, or copper, and the different kinds of stone, like limestone, granite, and marble. There would also be a combined category, a marker with both metal and stone as an integral part of it. The best way to take a look at all the materials is to visit a company that creates and sells markers. Some of those locations will focus only on stone or only on metal, but you should be able to find one that will do both. You can talk to the employees about the pros and cons of each material, get to look at some samples of the finished material, and find out how much various grave markers would cost.

When your loved one dies, you want to be able to memorialize their grave in a meaningful way. The way to do that is to make sure that you get a good marker or monument to put on their grave. It can take a little work to get the best marker, but it can be worth it when you see their grave. Reach out to a local funeral home to learn more about monuments.
